The Department of Civil Engineering of AAACET organized a Faculty Development Program on “Modern Survey Training using Total Station & Digital Global Positioning System and processing using Civil 3D” from 17/02/2022 to 21/02/2022. Dr.Thomas Gnanadurai, M.E., Ph.D., Duken Engineers, Thiruthangal, Sivakasi was the resource person for this event. The FDP aimed at imparting skills useful for conducting surveying works using Total Station & Digital Global Positioning System. The FDP was inaugurated on 17/02/2022 in the presence of the Principal Dr.M.Sekar, Civil Engineering faculty and students.
All the faculty members (10 Nos.) of Civil Engineering Department participated in the FDP and were trained to handle total station & DGPS and process the data using Civil 3D software. Total station and DGPS are modern surveying instruments which include functions of dumpy level, auto level and other conventional survey instruments. Also it is digital, automatic and provides high accurate data for solution of geodetic tasks. The use of AutoCAD Civil 3D software tools facilitates and accelerates the process of depicting engineering and land grade planning. Measurement with Total Station and depiction with AutoCAD Civil 3D have become one of the soft skill competencies to be possessed by Civil Engineering graduates. This five-day FDP helped the participants to get hands-on training on conducting survey using total station & DGPS and process the data using Civil 3D software. The participants attended all the sessions with enthusiasm and cleared their doubts during the interactive question and answer session. The FDP came to an end with the participants sharing their feedback.
