Digital Journalism

AAA College of Engineering & Technology in association with Digital Journalist Association of India organized a one day workshop on Digital Journalism and launched DIJAI Students Forum on Saturday 24th March 2018. Dr. P. Ganesan, Mg. Director, Vinayaga Sony Fireworks Group, and Correspondent of AAA College of Engineering & Technology presided over the programme. Around 400 students from Virudhunagar District Arts and Science, Engineering and Polytechnic Colleges attended the programme.

Dr. Santhosh Babu IAS, Chairman & MD, Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation and OSD, Chief Ministers Special Cell, Government of Tamil Nadu inaugurated the programme. He enumerated the key factors of success: be a creative thinker; voracious reader; and an effective communicator. He educated the students to resist temptation and lead their lives as leaders.

Ms. Susan Koshy, Editor in Chief, PreSense, and Secretary, DiJAI enlightened the audience on Editing + Importance of brevity, grammar, and language. She explained how meticulous one has to be while drafting the content for digital media. Such a well-organized content needs to be free of grammatical inaccuracy. She quoted that reliability is the strong suit of a writer.

Mr. R Nurullah, a Senior Tamil journalist, and Vice President, DiJAI presented a topic on Writing for Tamil media and ethical practices. The session was fun-filled with the captivating speech of Dinamalar famous Editor of “Tea Kadai Bench”. He made the audience realize how important it is to visualize the target audience and their needs.

Mr. V. Rajendran, Cyber Advocate, and Chairman, Digital Security Association of India (DiSAI) gave a speech on Cyber Law affecting the Journalism. He showed light on the freedom of expression and the cyber laws. He insisted on the inevitable presence of ethics and morality in presenting a digital content.

Mr. Vinoth Poovalingam, CEO, Hocalwire, Delhi (through teleconference) explained Global trends in Digital Journalism. He projected the gradual growth of the history of journalism over the decades. He also pointed out that the Indian internet users are around 438 million and said that there is a great impact in the society by the social media and chat applications.

Ms. Vidyashree Dharmaraj, Editor-in-Chief, Covai Post, Coimbatore (through teleconference) elucidated Challenges in Digital Journalism. She expounded her real-life challenges. Her speech focused on the unpredictable external threats for a journalist.

The technical sessions were succeeded by a Feedback session and an awe-inspiring response from the students.
